Artist Residencies Today
August 31, 2018
6:00 pm
7:30 pm

Artist Residency Programs offer exciting and culturally rich opportunities for visiting artists and local audiences. While residency program models vary by institution and location, many share the core mission to offer new experiences and the opportunity to create during a moment of pause and reflection. In the lead-up to An American City FRONT International’s temporary residency space, The Madison, hosted many visiting artists and programs. Is it sustainable and important for FRONT to continue this residency based work between triennials and what are the keys to doing so inclusively?

Hosted by FRONT International on August 31, 6:00 PM at the FRONT Porch organizer A. Will Brown, Assistant Curator, MOCA Cleveland will moderate a panel of guest speakers that include, Chris Cook, Executive Director, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts; Alexandra Grant, Los Angeles based artist; Mimi Kato, Cleveland based artist; Sharon Maidenberg, Executive Director, Headlands Center for the Arts; and Marisa Williamson, New York based artist. The discussion will explore the mutual benefit of residency programs in communities,  what artist residency programs bring to communities, how these programs sustain their activities, and the current social and political challenges they face.
