The Glenville Exchanges: Power of Sports for Girls and Women

Join artist Elizabeth Emery, athlete and formerNational Champion, in discussion with an all-female panel on the theme of transitioning to a career in sports. Emery will moderate the discussion and invite audiences, including the women interviewed in her FRONT commission, Hear Her Sports Glenville, to participate in a healthy discussion about the power of sports for girls and women. The discussion will be sparked by listening to recorded interviews of female athletes in Glenville, conducted over the past months.

 

Panelists:

Dorsena Drakeford moved to Cleveland as a reporter and anchor for WKYC in April 2017. You can find her on Channel 3 news on weekday mornings and anchoring Saturday and Sunday mornings with meteorologist Michael Estime. She ran track in middle and high school, was on the cheerleading squad for both football and basketball and continues to run and compete.

Frozena Jerro will coach her first season with the 2018-19 Cleveland State women’s basketball team and her 22nd season as a collegiate coach. Most recently she was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator with University of Illinois, Chicago. She is a former USA Basketball participant and was inducted into her high school athletic hall of fame, earning the honor at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in San Francisco, California.

Kayla Spivey is in the 10th grade and plays basketball for Coach Crider at John Hay High School and during the summer through the FDR Academy Boys & Girls Club in Glenville. In 2017 she earned the Player of the Year Awarded, M.V.P. for the season, and the Being A Leader Award.

Elizabeth Emery hosts and produces Hear Her Sports a long-form interview podcast where female athletes share secrets to speak up, live with power & confidence, and to do amazing things. Elizabeth is a former professional cyclist. She was a member of the 2000 Olympic Long Team, a National Champion in the Time Trial, a gold medalist in the Pan American Games and the Pan American Championships. She raced in The Tour de France for many years when it was called The Grand Boucle and in multiple World Championships for Team USA.
