FRONT Triennial Artist-in-Residence Juan Araujo in conversation with Ellen Johnson ’33 Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Andrea Gyorody

Venezuelan-born, Lisbon-based artist Juan Araujo has been selected to participate in the inaugural FRONT International Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, which is set to open at a host of venues in Cleveland, Akron, and Oberlin on July 14, 2018. Araujo, whose work has focused on the legacy of important modernist architecture, has been commissioned by FRONT Artistic Directors Michelle Grabner and Jens Hoffmann to produce a project in response to Oberlin’s own Weltzheimer-Johnson House. Araujo will be in residence this week, conducting research in Oberlin and Cleveland, and will return in June to install his project in the house itself.

Please join us this Thursday afternoon for an introduction to FRONT by Associate Curator Lisa Kurzner, followed by a brief presentation of Araujo’s previous work, concluding with a conversation between Araujo and AMAM Curator Andrea Gyorody, the coordinating curator for Oberlin’s FRONT projects.
